Praying For My Crush: Is It Okay To Pray That My Crush Likes Me? (2023)

"Is it okay to pray for my crush to like me?" - I've heard this question so many times I've lost count.

Every time I hear this question, my heart longs to take the girl asking the question out for coffee. I want to sit with her, look her in the eye and hear her story.To hear about the crush.Knowing why she likes him.

Then when she asks, "Is it okay to pray that my crush likes me?" I would smile and then reply (with what I wrote below).

See, I sympathize with the girls who are asking this question on a very deep level.

I can empathize with these girls because I...Warthis girl!

I was the girl who prayed for her crush to like her back; I prayed for it and wished it with every dandelion I saw and every time the clock ticked 11:11. And in doing so I unintentionallyset my crush as an idol in my heart. He became the greatest good...not God.

Has my crush ever liked me? Did praying that he like me "work"?

Usually... no.

And that's okay!

As I got older I realized that praying for my crush to like me was not only selfish when it came to my relationship with God, it was also a selfish way of looking at my crush!

Eventually, my prayers regarding my crush started to change.

Instead of “God, may he please like me too!” they morphed into “God, may he love you more today,” or “May he read his Bible today,” or “May he show respect to his parents today, even though he disagrees."

I started praying for his well being. That God would guide him and his decisions regarding college and his future career. That God would come first in his life. And that he would become a man after God's own heart, like David in the Bible.

Has God answered these prayers?

Yes! I think he did.

And I think those were the prayers thatimportant!

You see, when we ask God to hear our prayers, and when we pray for things "in Jesus' name," then we need to make sure that what we're praying is in accordance with God's will -- that it's in tune with who Jesus is is and is what he stands for. {I talk more about this my video“Prayer is NOT like a spirit lamp.”}

At some point I realized that maybe praying for my crush to like me isn't part of God's will for me. God may not want that to happen. However, I could not see why Godwould notwants my crush to get to know him better - those prayers were God's character.

So, to answer the question, "Is it okay to pray that my crush likes me?"

Short answer: Yes, you can. You can pray for anything.

But pray that your crush likes youpreferablywhat could you pray for him

NO.

Instead, pray for his character. Pray for his relationship with God. Pray that he has a servant's heart. Ask him to be humble instead of proud. Pray that God would give him strength against temptation.

As hard as it may be to hear, chances are you'll stop liking him in a few months to a year.So crushes usually tend to be temporary.
